Why procedures matter in COR
COR (Certificate of Recognition) recognizes employers whose health and safety systems meet WorkSafeBC standards. go2HR notes that certified employers can receive an annual rebate or credit of up to 10% of WorkSafeBC premiums. Written safe work practices and job procedures are one of the elements auditors score.
What auditors typically check
Based on go2HR's COR Toolkit (Element 3), auditors:
- Review a sample of your safe work practices and job procedures and compare them with your hazard identification and assessment.
- Interview supervisors and workers to confirm that qualified people were involved in developing and maintaining the procedures.
Audit tools differ between certifying partners, so get the current audit instrument from yours.
Pre-audit checklist
| Check | Done? |
|---|---|
| Every moderate and high hazard in the assessment has a linked procedure | ☐ |
| Each procedure lists hazards, controls, PPE and steps | ☐ |
| Workers who do the task were involved, and you can show it | ☐ |
| Each procedure has an approver, date and version | ☐ |
| Procedures are available where the work happens | ☐ |
| Training records show who reviewed each procedure | ☐ |
| Supervisors can explain the procedures in an interview | ☐ |
Closing gaps fast
The usual gap is volume: dozens of tasks without a written procedure and weeks until the audit. A video-first workflow helps. Film each task with the worker who does it, let SOP365 draft the procedure, review it with the supervisor and joint health and safety committee, then publish it with QR codes and collect acknowledgements. Each step leaves the record auditors look for.
